Remodeling Overview

So, you're ready to improve your lessons through remodeling?

The full process of lesson remodeling in laid out in:

Lesson remodeling is a reflective process in which you begin with an existing lesson, and revise both content (curriculum, materials, and topics) as well as pedagogies (teaching/learning strategies).

You can remodel for just about any purpose! The book, 95 Strategies for Remodeling Instruction, is about remodeling for student-centredness in pedagogies.

However, you can remodel for many other purposes, including:
  • equity,
  • culture,
  • gender,
  • inclusion,
  • critical thinking,
  • and much, much more!
Keep in mind that remodeling means you re-think ALL aspects of your lesson:
  • Content - what are the topics? What resources or readings are you using?
  • Pedagogies - what are the teaching/learning strategies you are using?
  • Assessments - on what student performance or products are you basing your judgement of students' mastery of skills?
